THE IMPORTANCE OF THE NEW GHS HAZARD SYMBOLS ON INTERVALL PRODUCTS

As of 01. June 2015 a new labelling system shall apply throughout the European Union, which shall also apply for laundry detergents. The changes relate back to the "Globally Harmonised System", which was decided upon by the United Nations and which has been implemented by the EU, so that consumers are informed in a more enhanced uniform manner across the EU about potential hazards. Products whose formulations have remained unchanged since over 30 years or more shall also have to be marked with pictograms. Even products that needed no pictograms at all until now have to be marked with the new pictograms. This is precisely the case with regard to our products, which shall henceforth bear the following pictogram:

Are our products henceforth more hazardous than formerly?

No, because we only use ingredients in our laundry detergents that comply with the entire EU legal requirements and which have accordingly been tested. Moreover, our formulations have in some cases not changed since more than 30 years! The only change in formulation in the case of the tenestar silkwash for example was at the beginning of the 90’s and was related to a new perfume for the product (since the production of the hitherto used perfumes was discontinued, we had no other choice but to use a new one anyway).

The information that follows the pictogram now reads as follows:

ATTENTION. Causes serious eye irritation. Keep out of reach of children. IF IN EYES: Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes. Remove contact lenses if present and easy to do – continue rinsing. If eye irritation persists: Get medical advice/attention. IF SWALLOWED: Call a poison center/doctor if you feel unwell.

These details inform you about what hazards are possible, in the event that an accident occurs with the product and the undiluted product thereby gains access to the eyes. Only the potential hazard is referred to - but not a risk in the application of the product itself.

Insofar as our products are always used in accordance with the application and safety instructions, one is always on the safe side. The handling of a knife and fork can for example constitute a hazard, because both the knife as well as fork can cause injury to the skin if handled carelessly. In the case of safe use, however – which we all learn in the course of childhood - there is no risk. This also entirely applies in the case of our special detergents.

Until now we had no hazard pictograms printed on our special detergents, since the relevant ingredients were below the thresholds that require specification according to the EU detergent regulation. The new thresholds have however been lowered so drastically that we are obliged to label.

A transitional period up to May 2017 applies to products that were produced prior to 01. June 2015. It is therefore possible that identical products, differently labelled, may be placed side by side. The following however absolutely applies, regardless of the labelling: Insofar as the application and safety instructions as well as the dosage recommendations are complied with, the application of our special laundry detergents is safe for you and the environment.
